Peaceful step parenting

January 16, 2013

It does not take much before my boat is rocked. I look at my husband and I see his calm response to his circumstances. I am not like that. I get nervous, distressed and tense. A good part of that is that I get motivated for change. However, there is not all things I can change.

As a stepmom I often experience situations where I have little control or influence. I might have a little control or a little influence, but not as much as I feel comfortable with. Often I try to change the circumstances in order to maintain my peace. When circumstances are out of reach of my influence, I feel powerless in how to maintain the peace.

The kind of peace the Bible talks about does not rely on our circumstances. It talks about the kind of peace that transcends reality, transcends our circumstances. That kind of peace is a fruit of what is within us rather than what is around us.

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
